Canadian recording artist PJ “Kingpin” Wilson captivates his listeners with a musical hybrid influenced by Motown, R&B and Soul. His unique and personal musical spin has captured the attention of his peers and music industry professionals alike. PJ says, “I was deeply inspired by my father, who sang in choir and from listening to my parents vinyl albums. These experiences guided me onto my current glorious musical path.” Wilson is no stranger to tragedy and life’s challenges, with the loss of his mother at a young age, he has focused a dedicated element of his energy to giving back by performing in many charitable events, that include the Canadian Cancer Society’s “Relay For Life.”
PJ Wilson was selected the grand prize winner of the “91.5 The Beat” Rhythm of The Future talent search contest. He then went on to work with music producer Marcus Kane (Shania Twain, Marc Jordan, Gary Beals, Danny Fernandes) on a track titled “The Love is Gone.” Kingpin Wilson says, ” working with Marcus Kane was a real treat, that helped me grow as a writer, arranger and performer.”
The release of the E.P. titled, “Preface” produced by Juno award-winner Chris Perry (Shawn Desman, Keshia Chanté, Kalan Porter), received critical acclaim from Rockstar Weekly magazine. The single from the E.P. called “What’s On Your Mind”, was discovered by music producer Mario Romano (Catania, Italy) who has re-mixed the track, which has been released worldwide as “Perfect Guy.”
Grammy-nominated & Juno award-winning Kuya Productions (Akon, Nelly, Alessia Cara) have created the collection of songs known as the “Rise of The Kingpin” EP. The two tracks called “Sinners” and “She’s So Fine” alongside the aforementioned song “Perfect Guy” are receiving radio air play in Italy, Belarus, Switzerland, Ukraine and Russia, United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa and Thailand, including Hot 20 status on national radio in Poland. Multiple music video releases reach out to his audience worldwide.
Wilson recently received two FACTOR recording grants and he recently created a new relationship with award-winning writer/producer Mark Zubek (Crash Test Dummies, Wynton Marsalis),that has spawned three brand new singles to be released, in the near future.
PJ is poised to launch his brand across Canada through a national commercial radio campaign, an extensive tour to support the single and performances at select music industry conferences, for additional exposure.
